If there is an active aggressor or shooter

If you hear shots fired, witness an armed person shooting or threatening people, or if NAIT issues an emergency notification about an active shooter or aggressor on campus, you should quickly determine the safest way to protect yourself.

  1. Run
If safe, exit the building quickly and keep your hands visible to first responders.
  2. Hide
If you can't run, hide. Turn off lights and stay quiet (silence your mobile phone).
  3. Fight
If you are in imminent danger and only as a last resort, fight to defeat the attacker.
  4. Report or Check In
Once you are safe, let others know. Report any observations to emergency services.
Our emergency wardens are an essential part of NAIT’s emergency response. Follow their directions, as they are knowledgeable and are trained to guide the NAIT community to safety.
