Hold and Secure Procedure

If there is an ongoing criminal threat in the neighbourhood near a NAIT campus, you may be instructed to secure yourself within a NAIT building because it is safer to be inside as police deal with the issue.

  • If you are asked to hold and secure
  • Enter a NAIT building and remain indoors
  • Ensure the doors and windows are locked
  • Continue your regular work and learning activities, unless directed otherwise
  • Stay indoors until the ‘All Clear’ is given

Our emergency wardens are an essential part of NAIT’s emergency response. Follow their directions, as they are knowledgeable and are trained to guide the NAIT community to safety.

Call for help during an emergency

If this is an emergency, call 911 immediately.

(If you call 911 from a landline on a NAIT campus, Protective Services will automatically be alerted.)

Emergency Notifications

Protective Services can send timely emergency notifications through NAIT Alert using

  • The NAIT Alert mobile app (be sure to enable push notifications)
  • Email (to NAIT staff email accounts)
  • NAIT Twitter and, in select instances, Facebook
  • NAIT’s emergency website: nait.ca/emergency (alerts may also appear on nait.ca, staff intranet and MyNAIT Portal directing you to this website)
  • Desktop alerts on NAIT computers
  • Digital signage on NAIT campuses
  • Automated voice calls (to select users)
