In the event of an environmental threat or hazard, such as severe weather, including a tornado, or a hazardous material leak, you may be instructed to take shelter in a NAIT building.

  • Enter and remain indoors
  • Close doors and windows
  • In severe weather, stay away from exterior walls and windows
    • During a tornado, move to the lowest level of the building or to a closet, bathroom or under a staircase. At the very least, get under a sturdy piece of furniture
  • If there is a hazardous material release nearby, close or block ventilation fans and heating/air-conditioning system vents to prevent contaminated outside air from entering the area
  • Remain sheltered until emergency services gives the ‘All Clear’

Our emergency wardens are an essential part of NAIT’s emergency response. Follow their directions, as they are knowledgeable and are trained to guide the NAIT community to safety.
